Is alcohol forbidden for a Christian?

Is alcohol bad/forbidden?

As a child of God I wasn’t sure that beer/wine/alcohol was forbidden or bad for a Christian as long as it was taken in small quantities and not drunk to stupor.

I wasn’t sure so I decided to ask God to show me where (if any) in the Bible I’m told not to take strong drink.

He responded by showing me:

Proverbs 31:4-7 GNT
Listen, Lemuel. Kings should not drink wine or have a craving for alcohol. When they drink, they forget the laws and ignore the rights of people in need. Alcohol is for people who are dying, for those who are in misery. Let them drink and forget their poverty and unhappiness.

Proverbs 31:4-7 NKJV
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, It is not for kings to drink wine, Nor for princes intoxicating drink; Lest they drink and forget the law, And pervert the justice of all the afflicted. Give strong drink to him who is perishing, And wine to those who are bitter of heart. Let him drink and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more.

Now if you’re saying well I’m not a king, remember that as a child of the King of kings you’re an heir and born to rule.

If that is still not clear enough for you, notice that the passage names two sets of people. On one side you have those forbidden from strong drink called ‘kings, princes’ and on the other side those allowed/encouraged to drink called ‘dying, oppressed, miserable, poor’.

It’s left to you to chose the group you admire the most and join them.
